For same-sex couples who intend to marry in Italy, the Unione Civile was created. This new institution defends the rights and responsibilities of the couple whomever they may be, and needs to be celebrated before a government official (or a delegate) in the presence of two witnesses… and all your guests! All you need is to be free from other previous unions.
Same-sex marriages can be carried out in any venue that is considered “sede comunale” (municipal site). If you consider just how many venues this includes – villas, castles, palaces, and even beaches – well, then that means you can have the wedding of your dreams in the place of your dreams!
